picture Owen Maynard graduated from the University of Toronto in 1951 and joined Avro in the engineering division.  He worked on the C102 Jetliner, development of the CF100 Canuck fighter and later on the design and development of the Arrow.

With the cancellation of the Arrow program, he went to NASA with Jim Chamberlin. Like most of the ex-Avro engineering group at NASA, he quickly became a team leader, working on the first on the Mercury project and later assigned to the Apollo project.

.He became chief of Systems Engineering Division on the Apollo Spacecraft program. Maynard was largely responsible for the design of the lunar module Eagle, which placed Armstrong and Aldrin on the moon's surface 20 July 1969.
